If you never got a chance to go to university, it can feel as though there are few routes open to you. This is especially the case when it comes to jobs which offer good money. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. In the construction field, building your career is a better option than getting qualified. In fact, this is one income option in which those who haven’t been to university can shine. If you construct your career, the same way you construct those buildings, then you could be on top in no time. And, here’s how to do it.
The base
Every good construction workers knows that a building needs a base. Your career is no different. Sadly, many will tell you that the base is the hardest part of building. But, with hard work and perseverance you can make this work for you.
Throughout this process, keep your aim close to home. Don’t think about the larger picture, because it’ll distract you from what you’re doing. Instead, accept jobs which may not be in the pay bracket you would like. Do the work that isn’t what you’re after, but do it well. Make amazing cups of tea for those above you. Fetch their new materials before they ask. All this will work towards building a glowing portfolio and will help get you that step closer to a decent wage.
The foundations
Once your base is in place, it’s time to think about foundations. These are what will support your entire building, or your career, as it were. So, it’s essential not to skip this step. Ultimately, it’ll give you the lift towards a better-paid position in the future. But, what are the foundations for a decent career in construction? For the most part, these are your qualifications. But, don’t worry; you don’t get these in the classroom. While you’re on the job, put yourself forward for everything from a forklift certificate to a licence on those big lorries. All if this will set you above other applicants, and ultimately, see you at the top.
The structure
And, of course, no building would be complete without a decent structure. In your case, that structure is the higher job. You ultimately want to aim for site manager or supervisor positions. And, once the above is in place, you can start searching for them. Something like this list of commercial construction jobs is sure to point you in the right direction. Even if you don’t think you’re qualified, it’s worth applying. It only takes one break to get the right position.
And, once you have the higher paying job, you’ll be much closer to your earning dreams. Who said you need a piece of paper to reach financial freedom?
